Having trouble getting in to see a physio? It's not just you, it's all in the numbers...

Updated: Aug 17, 2022

If you have tried to access physiotherapy services outside of a major city in the past few years, you'll already be well aware that it can be very difficult to get in to see a physiotherapist when you need to. Not many of us plan our injuries ahead of time, so waiting for 3-4 weeks to get in to see someone often just isn't a viable option.

That often leaves people with the decision to either attend the emergency department with a non-life threatening condition (all but ensuring waiting in a plastic chair in a mask for hours on end) or putting up with the pain for a prolonged period of pain.

Connect Physio Co was developed because we know that when people have access to high-quality physiotherapy care early on, they have better outcomes. Delaying care can have a flow-on effect which can complicate and prolong your recovery. What could have been a simple ankle sprain turns into you limping around for 3 weeks before it's addressed - this can lead to uneven weight bearing through both sides, which may lead to hip and knee pain. Eventually that may also turn into back pain. Not to mention the actual ankle is likely to be stiffenning up and the injured leg getting weak while you're waiting.

Connect Physio Co wants to make sure that people have access to physiotherapy in a timely manner, no matter where they live in Australia. We know that we have less physiotherapists per capita than a number of other countries. For exmaple Norway has 24 physiotherapists per 10,000 people. In Australia you could expect to find only 11 physiotherapists per 10,000 people. But they're not spread evenly across the population. In a major city such as Melbourne or Sydney, you can find 14 physiotherapists per 10,000 people. Move out to regional areas and there will be 8 physiotherapists per 10,000 people. Then out in remote Australia, there are only 4 physiotherapists per 10,000 people.

At Connect Physio Co, we firmly believe that where you choose to live shouldn't mean that you forgo access to healthcare when you need it. Connect Physio Co knows that most people will already have a preferred physiotherapist that they see - that's fine, we are here to get you seen when you need to be. If you can get in to see your regular physiotherapist, then that's fantastic. If not, you can come and see us and we an handover to your regular physiotherapist or doctor as soon as you can get an appointment.

We have a unique model of care which prevents us from being booked out weeks in advance. You can attend Connect Physio Co's online urgent care clinic without an appointment. Waiting in the comfort of your own home rather than an emergency department, and you'll be seen by the next available physiotherapist. You do have the option to book an appointment if you'd prefer to know when you'll see your physio. Simply follow the prompts on our website to make an appointment or present to our urgent care clinic.

We look forward to helping you.
